The blues room
On Wednesday night I went (with a couple of friends from the church cell group) to the the blues room. It is located @ Village walk Sandton. The place is quite big, there is a nice dining area, then there is a bar at both ends and a stage where people perform. Entry is usually R50 but since Marike knows some people from the one band that performed there(J.O.T) she managed to organize some complimentary tickets.
When we got there "The bang" was performing, a bit rough around the edges and their vocals need some work, (I could not make out any words) maybe the sound guy is to blame. All in all they not bad at all. Lead guitar and drummer was pretty damn good.
After that "Stock exchange" played. You could see they had a lot more experience. Their music reminded me of live... Till they did a cover of "Lightning crashes"... Which was not bad at all. Personally I do not like it when people try doing covers... Write your own music, that aside. Their music has a very distinctive style and beat/speed, they are all brilliant musicians. They only did one cover of an amazing song so they can be forgiven.

Then after that Jam on Tuesday played. I liked their songs. I thought their vocals was the strongest part of the band though the base player seemed very dedicated too. Too bad they only performed about 4 songs. They also advertised their site. They also have some MP3 samples on of their music.
Afterwards we chatted a bit and a got a chance to meet Gill (lead vocalist) but it was getting late, work the next morning, ;( Plus there was the fact that the club was closing. I Got home between 1 and 2.
All in all the experience was very enjoyable. There are lots of very talented people out there. The South African public should just go out more and support the local bands!
That counts for me too. I need to get out more!
