R.I.P Contracting
Contracting, an uncertain but good income will be missed. Leaves behind good memories of doing nothing, and sleeping late between contracts. Especially sleeping late during the cold winter months and taking off days when I just "felt like it". For now Rest in Peace.
After contracting for 7 months for Rand Merchant Bank I am now a permanent employee. I have to say it is not a bad company to work for and it is also reflected in the 2004 and 2003 South African top company survey.
I get to go to work around 9:30 and leave around 6pm. There is nobody watching the clock to make sure that I am exactly on time or do not take more than my allowed lunch break. I work with a bunch of motivated and talented senior developers. Our development office runs 99% linux (Redhat 9). We have access to the web to do research, read email etc. The company has a affordable canteen with good food. Then there is a coffee bar.
So what is next for me? Buying a place of my own? mmm.... Very tempting.
